In the first 8 months of 2019, export of livestock products brought 449 million USD, up 3.6% over the same period in 2018. This result is remarkable in the context that the livestock industry is seriously affected by African swine fever .
Export value of livestock products in August 2019
Specifically, data of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), the export value of livestock products in August 2019 was estimated at US $ 64 million. This brought the export value of livestock products in May 8 2019 estimated at 449 million USD, up 3.6% over the same period in 2018.
In the context that the domestic livestock industry is challlenged. It is due to the African swine fever, bad impact, reducing about 10% of the total pig herds, the export results of livestock products should be appreciated.
Previously, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, African swine caused about VND 3.600 billion in losses. This led to a great loss in agriculture. Specifically, the growth of production value of the entire agricultural sector decreased in 6 months, when it was only 2.71%. Meanwhile, without this disease the growth can reach 3-4%.
Accumulated from the beginning of February 2019 to August 20, 2019, the African swine outbreak has occurred in 6.959 communes in 592 districts of 62 provinces and cities. A total of 4.426.236 culled pigs, with the total weight was 255.505 tons.
Livestock in August stayed in a positive direction
Despite the great damage caused by African swine fever, the statistics on the development of the livestock industry in August stayed in a positive direction.
According to the General Statistics Office, the situation of raising buffaloes and cows in August had no big changes. Estimated total buffalo population in August 2019 decreased by 3.1%. The total number of cows increased by about 2.4% compared to the same period in 2018.
Regarding pig production, African swine in many localities is gradually being controlled. The number of pigs destroyed in August was less than the previous months (the number of pigs destroyed in August (as of August 19) about 475.7 thousand in July and 883.7 thousand in July). The estimated total number of pigs in the country in August 2019 decreased by 18.5% compared to the same period in 2018.
Poultry flock develops well due to stable consumption market. Price is at a favorable level for farmers. Estimated poultry population of the whole country in August 2019 increased by about 10% compared to the same period in 2018.
