According to statistics from Vietnam General Department of Customs, the import of animal feed and raw materials in June 2020 reached USD 439 million, an increase of 33.94% compared to the previous month and an increase of 56.07%. Compared with the same month last year.

The main markets supplying animal feed and raw materials to Vietnam in June 2020 are still Argentina, Brazil, India and the US … In which, Argentina became the largest supplier to Vietnam with 136 million USD, down 1.39% over the previous month but up 4.31% over the same month last year, bringing the import turnover of animal feed and raw materials in the first 6 months of 2020 to 724 million USD, up 3.25% over the same period. Last year, accounting for 39% market share.

Next is the Brazilian market with an import turnover of more than 93 million USD in June 2020, an increase of 442.17% compared to May 2020 and a sharp increase of 567.12% compared to June 2019. Generally in the first 6 months of 2020, Vietnam imported animal feed and raw materials from this market reached more than 162 million USD, up 26.86% over the same period in 2019. Accounting for 8.8% of the market share.

Ranking third is India with an import turnover of more than 50 million USD, an increase of 434.71% compared to May 2020 and an increase of 364.2% over June 2019, bringing the total import turnover from this market. to 88 million USD, down 9.33% over the same period in 2019, accounting for 4.8% of the market share.

Generally, in the first 6 months of 2020, Vietnam spent more than USD 1.8 billion on importing animal feed and raw materials, down slightly by 1.91% compared to the same period in 2019. Markets with strong growth turnover during the period. These are: Mexico with 2 million USD, up 82.92% over the same period in 2019, Singapore with 14 million USD, up 66.66% over the same period in 2019, UAE with more than 20 million USD, up 49.67% over the same period in 2019, followed by Malaysia with more than 21 million USD, up 49.46% over the same period.

Production of animal feed

According to the Department of Livestock Production, total production from industrial animal feed companies in the first 6 months of 2020 reached 9.5 million tons (down 5.4% compared to the same period in 2019, of which food for pigs reached 3.96 million tons, down 25.0%, poultry feed reached 5.04 million tons, up 16.5%).

Regarding the price of finished animal feed: the price of complete mixed feed for pigs from 60 kg to finishing house 9,411 VND / kg (up 3.2%), complete mixed feed for white-haired chickens is 9,995 VND / kg. kg (+ 2.6%), complete mixed feed for chicken feathers, VND 9,513 / kg (1.1% increase).

Livestock industry

According to the General Statistics Office, in the first 6 months of the year, the livestock production value increased by 1.05%, contributing to the overall growth of the agricultural sector at 1.18% over the same period in 2019.

The Department of Livestock Production (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) said that in the first 6 months of 2020, the total poultry herd increased by 7.4%, the cow herd increased by 3.4%, the pig herd decreased by 6% over the same period. The total production of meat is estimated at 2.58 million tons, down 2.56% over the same period in 2019. In which, pork production is estimated at 1.62 million tons, down 8.8%. ; Poultry meat output was estimated at 702.1 thousand tons, up 12.3%.

In terms of export value, it is estimated at 208 million USD. Export of animal feed and animal feed ingredients in the first 6 months of the year reached about 341.2 million USD, up 3.1% compared to the first 6 months of 2019. In addition to a number of large livestock enterprises that have started to re-herd sows from October 2019, which will produce products from August 2020, the majority of the sows are re-herd in farms and households (area accounting for a large proportion in production) has only started from the end of February 2020 onwards.
